'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.
She explained the man proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
